Introduction

There are so many projects in Bangladesh that are continuing to change the look of its environmental situation. Top 5 mega projects in Bangladesh are included with them. They’ll be described shortly in this presentation. The Government of Bangladesh has taken these projects for making it developed like other developed the countries.



Some years ago Bangladesh was a poor country which was at poverty level. But gradually it is be developing as like developed country. Now Bangladesh is a known name all over the world in each individual country. It is developing day by day and mega development projects are taking place.

Padma Bridge

The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose road-rail bridge across the Padma River under construction in Bangladesh. It will connect Louhajong, Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur, linking the south-west of the country, to northern and eastern regions. Padma Bridge is the most challenging construction project in the history of Bangladesh. The two-level steel truss bridge will carry a four-lane highway on the upper level and a single track railway on a lower level. With 150 m span, 6150 m total length and 18.10 m width it is going to be the largest bridge in the Padma-Brahmaputra-Meghna river basins of country in terms of both span and the total length. Padma Bridge, when commissioned, is expected to boost the GDP of Bangladesh by as much as 1.2 percent.

Dhaka Metro Rail

Though the world’s first metro rail system opened in Bangladesh it is a totally new concept. The urgency to mitigate (91194 50) the mass trans The urgency to mitigate the mass transportation problems in Dhaka prompted the Bangladesh government to seek expansion and modernization of the city’s mass transit mode. In 1998, Bangladesh government created the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority. An urban transport plan was commissioned in 2008, wherein the government laid out a comprehensive transport naming Strategic Transport Plan (STP) for the greater Dhaka city and its adjoining areas.

The plan on various key policy issues including safety, pedestrian preferences, public transport, non-motorized transport demand management, mass transit systems, etc. From 70 different policy recommendations under the STP, 10 comprehensive transportation strategies were evaluated. Later the Strategic Transport Plan was revised adopted plan includes construction of 5 Metro Rail Lines across the city. Under the Road Transport and highway Division of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridge, the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development ECE (DMRTDP) was taken up by the government. In June 2013, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) was established by the government to implement the Metro Rail Lines across the city.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Project

Rooppur nuclear power project is a 2.4GW pressurized water reactor (PWR) facility under construction on the eastern side of the Ganges in the Pabna district of Bangladesh. Being built with Russian support, it will be the country’s first nuclear power plant. Estimated to cost $13.34bn, the project is being undertaken by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC). The first concrete for the Rooppur Unit-1 was poured in November 2017, while that for the Unit-2 was poured in July 2018. The first unit of the plant is scheduled for commissioning 2023, while the second unit is expected to start operations in 2024.












Bangabandhu Tunnel


Bangabandhu Tunnel is an under-construction underwater expressway tunnel in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh under the Karnaphuli River. The tunnel length is 9.3 kilometers (5.8 mi) and width 10 meters (33 ft). The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2022. The tunnel will be the first of its kind in South Asia and is expected to improve the Dhaka -Chittagong -Cox's Bazar highway network. Chinese firm- China Communication Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), is working as consultant for construction of the tunnel. The estimated cost of the tunnel is BDT 98.80 Billion, where Chinese Exim Bank will provide BDT 59.13 Billion. Chinese President Xi Jinping is set visit the construction site of the Karnaphuli Tunnel.
